Abstract
793,154. Fluid pressure brakes. KNORRBREMSE GES. Aug. 17, 1956 [Aug. 19, 1955], No. 25291/56. Class 103 (1). In a fluid pressure brake system for railways of the kind wherein, if the wheels of a rail vehicle should begin to skid, an inertia mass, not shown, within a housing 3 operates to open a valve 5 releasing air from above a valve member 9, which is itself raised to put a flexible pipe 17 in communication with an opening 15, a safety valve 21 is interposed between the valve unit 2 and the control cylinder 47 whereby pressure from a reservoir 73 is admitted to a brake cylinder 81 in accordance with variations produced in a control valve 71 by the main air pipe 77. Thus if the flexible pipe 17 to the valve unit 2 should brake, air in chamber 25 will feed open valve 35 to vent the chambers 41 and 45 but later owing to the nozzle 39 being of larger dimensions than the nozzle 27, the piston 23 will be raised to shut the valve 35 and cut off the broken hose 17 from the remainder of the system.
