Abstract

828,873. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. July 16, 1958 [July 25, 1957], No. 23558/57. Class 103 (1). A vehicle braking system includes a brake 12, 13 applied by a fluid-pressure motor 19, and a second fluid-pressure motor 21, 22 arranged to oppose the applying force of motor 19 and to be controlled by a device 30 which is driven by wheels 11 and is sensitive to the rate of deceleration. Below a certain maximum deceleration the device 30 is inoperative, a valve 25 is closed and a valve 23 opened to connect motor 21, 22 to reservoir 24 but when this maximum is exceeded the valve 23 is closed and valve 25 opened, by the device 30 through a relay mechanism, to supply compressed fluid from an accumulator 26 to the motor 21, 22 to oppose motor 19 and reduce the retardation of axle 10. When the deceleration reduces below the predetermined limit the valve 25 closes and valve 23 opens to resume normal braking.
