Abstract

1453862 Load dependent braking GIRLING Ltd 27 Dec 1973 [12 Jan 1973] 1778/73 Heading F2F A control valve 10, for controlling pressure in a first circuit of a vehicle dual system, has a movable valve member subject to the action of a predetermined load and a load dependent upon vehicle loading, this load being removed from action on the valve by means responsive to pressure failure in the other circuit. The valve 10 is located in a rear brake line of a circuit supplying front and rear brakes, and has a ball 23 which blocks communication between the valve inlet and outlet but which is displaced to open such communication by a ring 24 carried by a member 11. Outlet pressure is a function of inlet pressure, of pressure of a spring 26, and of pressure of a spring 14 whose force is varied according to vehicle loading. If a pressure failure occurs in a second circuit, which supplies front brakes only, a piston 31 is an unloading device 12, previously held upwardly by fluid pressure, moves downwardly to move a lever 13 away from the member 11 to remove the vehicle loading effect on the valve outlet pressure so that rear wheel braking is not too great in the absence of front wheel braking.
