Abstract
1372398 Braking system ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 24 Nov 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 54485/71 Heading F2F A braking system for motor vehicles comprises a braking force regulating valve 13 interposed in the line between a pressure source and a brake cylinder, means for producing a signal proportional to the loading of the vehicle and means for producing a signal proportional to the angular velocity of a wheel of the vehicle. The regulating valve has a member 16 which carries two valve members 17, 19 the arrangement being such that the position of the valve seat 15 for one 17 of the valve members is controllable by a electromagnet 8 which is in turn controlled from a computer 4 which receives the aforementioned signals. As shown the valve 13 allows brake fluid to flow to the brake cylinder which is connected to an outlet 28, the brake fluid operating on a variable effective area diaphragm 22 to control the position of a valve seat 20 which in the "lipped" position of the valve co-operates with the valve member 19 of the member 16. The valve 15, 17 constitutes a brake venting valve which is opened by the electromagnet when a skid is sensed. The electromagnet may be separate from the regulating valve in which case the electromagnet operates a pneumatic valve so that pressurized fluid is allowed to work on the valve seat position controlling member (Fig. 2, not shown). The electromagnet may be coaxial with the regulating valve and the transducer provided for indicating the position of the movable valve seat (Fig. 4, not shown). In a further embodiment the pressures in the braking circuit upstream of the regulating valve and in the brake cylinder itself are monitored and signals proportional thereto fed into the computer for comparison (Fig. 6, not shown). The pressure in the vehicles pneumatic suspension may also be monitored. In a modification of the last mentioned embodiment the brake cylinder pressure in not monitored and during the brake cylinder exhausting sequence of operation the pressurized fluid escaping from the brake cylinder is conducted to the low pressure side of the piston of the brake cylinder to accelerate brake release (Fig. 8,not shown). Suitable circuits for computers to be used with the above constructions are described briefly with reference to Figs. 3, 5 and7 (not shown).
