Abstract

1374693 Load and deceleration control of braking ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 1 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 4591/72 Heading F2F A compressed air vehicle braking system has a braking force regulating valve, connected in a compressed air supply line 29 to a brake cylinder pressure chamber 30 and having a member 10 displaced by vehicle load variation to limit pressure for the brake cylinder, and at least one wheel deceleration sensor to reduce braking pressure by connecting a counter pressure chamber 31 in the brake cylinder 30 to a source of compressed air, the counter pressure chamber being vented to atmosphere through a valve controlled by the member 10 when the deceleration sensor is not actuated. Vehicle suspension deflections and wheel rotation values are transmitted to a computer 4 from sensors 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and 3, 3<SP>1</SP> respectively, the computer supplying a signal to a spring biased electromagnet 9 to move the member 10 in the form of a frusto-conical sleeve, in turn actuating sleeves 15, 18 acting as closure members. Anti-skid actuation causes rapid movement of sleeve 15 to allow pressurized air to pass from the pressure chamber 30<SP>1</SP> via the 29, chambers 27, 35 and line 32 to the counter pressure chamber 31 to equalize pressures to retract the brakes. Load sensing causes slower electromagnet movement, decreasing load causing leftward movement of sleeve 10, and upward movement of the sleeve 18. Pressure fluid in chamber 27 acts on a diaphragm 22 with a series of rings 23 and a sleeve 21, causing the diaphragm to move down so that a neck 20 in the sleeve 21 engages a part 19 of the sleeve 18. The effective area of the diaphragm 22 decreases with downward movement due to successive rings 23 abutting the valve casing 12, and thus the pressure required to engage the neck 20 and the part 19 increases with such downward movement. Therefore, for decreasing load values, the valve closing pressure decreases, thus decreasing the braking pressure from the cylinder 30. During non-actuation of the anti-skid sensors 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, the counter pressure chamber 31 is vented to atmosphere through line 32, chamber 35, passages 36, 37, 38, 39, past a closure member 43 actuated by the sleeve 10, and through an exhaust passage 41.
