794,503. Automatic control systems for removing twist. FOXWELL, D. Nov. 14, 1955 [Nov. 20, 1954], No. 33643/54. Class 38 (4). Apparatus for taking twist out of material in twisted rope form comprises a turntable or other rotatable part, supporting the twisted material and from which the material is fed, driven by a reversible drive in combination with a direction controlling device operated by the material in twisted rope form and acting to cause the drive to rotate the turntable &c. in one or the other direction according to the direction in which the control device is rotated by the rope. The rotatable materialsupporting part may be the basket of a hydro-extractor above which the direction-controlling device is mounted. As shown, the latter comprises two pairs of resiliently-mounted rollers 24, 27 carried by a frame 15 rotatable, by means of four rollers 4 and four rollers 8, in races formed by fixed rings 2, 9, 5. Frame 15 is biased by a weight or other means so that it normally takes up an angular position in which an electrical contact 29 carried by the frame is disposed midway between spring contacts 31, 32, Fig. 3, carried by ring 5. In operation, material is drawn from the hydroextractor, between rollers 24 and 27 and over a pulley 35. If a twist is present in the material passing between the rollers it will cause frame 15 to rotate so as to close contacts 29, 31 or 29, 32. The circuit thus closed causes rotation of motor driving the hydro-extractor in such a direction as to remove the twist.
