881,271. Washing-machines. GENERAL MOTORS, FRANCE. Oct. 16, 1959 [Dec. 12, 1958], No. 40134/58. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A unit comprising a tub 8, a rotatable drum 9, and a motor 10 is pivotally suspended in a cabinet or frame 13 on inextensible hanger arms 14, 15, the planes containing the pivot axes of the respective arms converging to an axis which is outside the cabinet or frame. The hanger arms 14, 15 are pivoted at 16, 18 and 17, 19 respectively and may comprise pairs of levers, as shown, or single pressed units. In an alternative arrangement (not shown), the arms 14, 15 may be convergent upwardly. For washing, drive is transmitted through a belt 5 and pulley 6, and for spin drying, through pulleys 1, 12, a pulley 11 driven by the motor 10 being clutchable to pulley 1 or to a pulley driving the belt 5.
