Abstract

1367223 Tension control in double strand winding machines STORII & H YAMAMOTO 19 July 1972 [27 Nov 1971] 33716/72 Heading D1D In a machine for winding two packages on a single spindle 18 driven by a motor 19 each strand A, B passes under a dancer roller 3a, 3b on a dancer arm 2a, 2b freely pivoted on an axle 1. The dancer arms upwardly engage a spring biassed lever 4, also freely pivoted on axle 1, and downwardly engage a lever arm 7 which is fixed to axle 1. The axle operates a differential transformer 16 so that downward displacement of either or both dancer arms, due to reduced tension in the respective strand, increases the voltage supplied to motor 19 thus increasing its speed and restoring the tension. Upward dancer arm displacement, due to increased tension in the respective strand, leaves the lever arm 7 in the horizontal position and is countered by a spring 6. Mathematical expressions for the tension ranges allowable in strands A and B are given.
