Abstract

318,601. Abbott, E. J. Sept. 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Creel arrangements.-In winding yarns from a number of individual packages on to one common receiving- member each package is driven at the same surface speed, the ratio of winding to unwinding speed being arranged to maintain a predetermined tension of the yarns, being maintained irrespective of changes in the actual winding and unwinding speeds, and being determined at any stage by the summation of the tension on all the yarns. The yarns Y, Figs. 1 and 2, are unwound from packages 50 and pass in a sheet S to the winding member 11, the latter being driven by a drum 7 through a belt 4 from the main shaft 2. The shaft 2 carries a cone pulley 22 adapted to drive a second cone pulley 23 on a shaft 24 through a belt 26, shafts 53, 53<a> transmitting motion from the shaft 24 to the driving rollers 49 for the packages 50. The yarns pass over guide rollers 16, 17, 18 and support a tension detector 21 comprising a freelyturning roller supported in swinging arms 19, 20. The shifter 27 for the belt 26 is supported on a screwed shaft 28 which carries a ratchet-wheel 30 co-operating with pawls 31, 32 carried by an arm 33 free on the shaft 28 and driven by a rod 34 and eccentric 35 from the pulley 5. If the tension on the yarns S, remains constant the ratchet-wheel 30 is masked by a shield 37 connected by levers 38, 39 to the arm 19. If the tension increases or decreases the shield 37 is moved and one of the pawls 31, 32 engages the wheel 30 and shifts the belt 26, thereby varying the drive of the packages 50 to compensate for the altered tension. The packages 50 are carried on spindles 47, Fig. 4, secured on arms 46 extending from sleeves 44 which are supported on collars or flanges 43 fixed to vertical rods 42. A spring 45 is arranged to press each package Against the driving roller 49.
