Abstract

442,650. Winding threads. SOLDEVILA, A., 46, Ausias March, Barcelona, Spain. July 5, 1935, No. 19247. Convention date, July 5, 1934. [Class 120 (ii)] In a machine for winding the separate threads from chains or beams into crosswound bobbins, all the bobbins are rotated at the same speed by driving cylinders that are each provided with a roughened or engraved surface and are applied to the cylinders by weights or springs so that slipping between the bobbins and cylinders is prevented and the feed of the threads to the bobbins is produced by the pull exerted by the latter on the chain or beam of thread. As shown, the bobbins 3, Fig. 2, are carried in oscillatable arms 4 and applied to the driving cylinders 2, which are all driven at the same speed, by weights 6 and springs 7 ; the bobbins may be driven through a change-speed mechanism so that the winding is begun at a relatively low speed and the speed is increased in proportion to the increase in diameter of the bobbins. The threads 10 coming from the chain or beam pass in groups through reeds 18, over a guide roller 13 and through reciprocating thread guides 8 to the bobbins and the reeds 18 are separated by projecting bridges 19 upon which the operative may rest her arm without touching the prongs of the reeds. A series of stopping levers are arranged near the roller 13 and a series of pedal starting levers along the platform on which the operative stands so that the machine may be stopped or started at any point in the length of the machine. When the threads are drawn from a chain 20, Fig. 5, they are braked by passage over rollers 27, 28 and then pass around a roller 29 to a take-up roller 30 carried by an oscillatable frame 31 controlled by a rope or chain 33 and counterpoises 34, the effect of which diminishes as the tension in the threads relaxes by the weights successively contacting with the floor ; when the threads are drawn from a beam, the rollers 27, 28 are not used and the beam itself is suitably braked.
