Abstract
239,713. Notenboom, A. W., Motenbcom, P., and Naamlooze Vennootschap Holland-Afrika Cie. Oct. 1, 1924. Fibres, crimping and curling.-The material, hair or fibres is fed to a rotatable inclined pin 13 and passes through a hollow shaft 9 and over a disc 8 and is .secured at 30 to a cylinder 3 mounted in bearings 4, 10 and rotated by a belt on a pulley 11. The pin 13 is rotated slower by a belt on a pulley 12. The disc 8 is drawn along the inside of the cylinder 3 by a rope 27 which winds around a drum on a shaft 36<a>, Fig. 5. The drum is rotated by ratchet mechanism operated by a cam 33 on the shaft 9. The shaft 36<a> is mounted on a lever 38, 40 carrying an adjustable balance weight 41, which, in the event of excessive tension of the twisted material, lifts the winding drum and so temporarily renders the ratchets inoperative. When the disc 8 reaches the end of the cylinder, a cam operated by the rope 27 operates belt-shifting mechanism and so stops the machine. The twisted material is then drawn out at 30, the disc 8 travels back along the cylinder 3 and the twisting of fresh material is commenced. The twisted material may be cut off or left hanging.
