Abstract

762,475. Crimping yarns ; driving arrangements in textile spinning &c. machines. FOULETIER, J. C. June 4, 1953 [June 16, 1952], No. 15434/53. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). Crimped yarns are produced by forming a number of elementary yarns which may differ in size, form, and other characteristics, into a single composite yarn which is wound on a bobbin without drawing and heat treated to fully set the deformation : the composite yarn is then separated into its component yarns by means of an untwisting device in which the component yarns are collected on bobbins driven by variable speed devices controlled by the yarn tension. The composite yarn may be formed by intertwisting, or by wrapping or winding one or more yarns around a core yarn to produce deformations in all the components. As shown in Fig. 1 two elementary yarns 1 and 2 drawn from bobbins 3 and 4 are intertwisted by a flyer 5 on a ring 7 to form a yarn 8, Fig. 2 (not shown) wound on a spool of a spindle 6 : when the yarn has been set the spool is placed on a driven spindle 9, Fig. 3, from which the yarn 8 passes through an eyelet 10 to be separated into component crimped yarns (each as in Fig. 4, not shown) which are wound on bobbins 11 and 12 frictionally driven by rollers 13 and 14 on which they rest whereby a constant speed is ensured for the yarns 1 and 2. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, a core yarn 19 drawn from a bobbin 20 is passed through a hollow spindle 18 carrying a spool 17 from which a yarn 25 is drawn to cover the yarn 19, the composite yarn 26, Figs. 6 or 7 (not shown), being drawn off on a bobbin 22 frictionally driven by a roller 23 : when the yarn has been set and as shown in Fig. 8, the core yarn 19 is disengaged from the successive turns of the yarn 25 by rotation about the axis of the yarn 26 as the generatrix of a core so that the yarn 19, Fig. 11 (not shown), is collected by a flyer 29 on a ring 30 on to a spool 27 carried by a hollow spindle 28 through which yarn 25, Fig. 10 (not shown) passes to a bobbin 31. The paths of the dividing component yarns may be interchanged. In a device for ensuring constant winding speed, Fig. 12, a bobbin 12 is frictionally driven by a roller 14 rotated by a string 34 passing over a driving pulley 35 and tensioned by an idler 36 carried by an arm 37 pivoted at 38 : the yarn 2 passes on a grooved roller 40 so that the tension therein opposes the control of a spring 39 and variation in the tension adjusts the amount of slip of the string 34. In another device, Fig. 13, the roller 40 is carried by an arm 41 pivoted at 42 with a nose 43 a terminal button of which bears against the roller 14 with a pressure which increases as the yarn tension increases and brakes the roller 14 to cause slipping of the string 34.
