Abstract

784,004. Finishing yarns; thread guides and tensioning arrangements. FINE SPINNERS & DOUBLERS, Ltd. March 5, 1956 [March 4, 1955], No. 6397/55. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) In " crimping" yarns or threads of synthetic or artificial thermoplastic e.g. polyamides and polyesters, fibres or filaments, two (or more) such yarns are passed continuously through a heating zone to. and from which they are separately directed by two sets of individual guides between which the yarns are continuously twisted together and continuously untwisted without the use of any mechanical twisting mechanism; the deformations imparted to the intertwisted yarns are set in the heating zone. As shown in Fig. 2, yarns a and b wound together on a bobbin A, are passed between the prongs of a trident-shaped guide C within a vessel of oil at a temperature of approximately 220‹C., the yarns are rotated e.g. 960 turns, by means of a temporary clamp, and the ends then passed through guides e and f and (under a regulated tension) to receiving packages E and F frictionally driven by cylinders E<SP>1</SP> and Fl; in threading up the apparatus and in order to effect the initial rotation of the yarn, the yarns may be passed through two separate holes in a wheel located at X. In apparatus, Figs. 3 and 4, for compensating for different contractions in the yarns a and b as they pass through the heating zone, the yarns are drawn through forks a<SP>1</SP> and b<SP>1</SP> on a T member H, pivotally mounted at h, by driven conical drums K and cylinders K<SP>1</SP>; the twisted portion passes over an electrically heated metal plate B<SP>2</SP> and through a fork c<SP>1</SP> on the member H and the separated yarns e and f are taken up on bobbins E and F driven by cylinders E<SP>1</SP> and F. If the point g moves to one side, the twisted yarn moves the fork c<SP>1</SP> in the same direction so that the member H rotates and the forks a<SP>1</SP> and bl lead the incoming yarn to parts of the drums K having a larger diameter in one case and a smaller diameter in the other: the resulting difference in yarn speeds restores the point g to a central position. Specification 762,475 is referred to.
