Abstract

346,708. Winding cross-wound conical bobbins. PERCIVAL, S., 40, Chancery Lane, London.-(Banner Maschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges.; Barmen, Germany.) Jan. 15, 1930, No. 1449. [Class 120 (ii).] Yarn or thread, particularly artificial silk, is wound on twisting, doubling, or winding frame at a practically constant rate to form conical crosswound bobbins, the spindle speed being varied during each traverse of the thread guide and reduced progressively as the bobbin grows camshaped toothed gear wheels being included in bobbin driving mechanism. The traverse cam may be such that layers of windings converge to a common apex at l. In the form shown, the spindle speed variations are effected by coned pulleys h, and by heart-shaped gears d, e, the traverse camshaft driving the spindle by a belt drive b, c. The thread guide is pivoted on the traverse bar and bears against the bobbin surface. In an alternative form, the bobbin rotates on a holder pivoted at l, the common apex of the windings, to move away, as the bobbin grows, from a conical driveroll the apex of which is also at l, thus obviating the necessity of coned pulleys; the drive-roll and traverse cam shaft being driven at a constant average speed through heart-shaped gears.
