Abstract

357,606. Winding cops of artificial silk. PERCIVAL, S., 40, Chancery Lane, London.-(Barmer Maschinenfabrik Akt.- Ges. ; Wuppertal, Oberbarmen, Germany.) May 26, 1930, No. 16172. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii).] Artificial silk is wound into cops which are preferably at least three inches in diameter, the individual layers having an inclination of at least 15‹, and consist of superimposed groups of layers, each group being formed by displacing the layers relatively to each other, first in an upward and then in a downward direction. A completed cop is shown in Fig. 6, a, l indicating the first and last layers of the first group, which is formed by displacing the guide rail upwardly to wind the layers a .. f, and downwardly to wind the layers g .. 1, and then imparting an additional upward displacement to wind the next group. The method of winding facilitates dyeing and subsequent unwinding. The cops 6 are preferably wound during doubling and twisting in a machine as shown in Fig. 1. The traverse is effected by a belt 21, Fig. 4, on a pulley 32 oscillated by a belt 30 connected to a disc 29 carried by a frame 27 coupled to a frame 26 which is oscillated by a traverse cam 22. The frames 26, 27 are coupled by a cam 39 the rotation of which causes upward and downward displacement of the layers of each group. The lift to displace each group is effected by the rotation of the disc 29, by means of ratchet gearing, which is only operative when the cam 39 has so displaced the frame 27 relatively to the frame 26 and the winding of a group of layers is completed that the arm which carries the ratchet pawl 36 strikes the stop 37. The disc 29 is formed with a decreasing effective radius so as to form closer winding towards the nose of the cop. The delivery spindle 1 is driven by a belt 5 and drives the winding-spindle by a belt 13 which actuates a pulley 15 connected to the delivery rollers 14 by worm gearing.
