Abstract
1,085,435. Bobbins. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. June 7, 1966 [June 8, 1965], No. 24213/65. Heading B8M. [Also in Division D1] Bobbins are doffed from a speed frame by bringing all the bobbins and their associated flyers to rest and then simultaneously relatively axially displacing all the bobbins and flyers to cause each roving to be severed at a point between the bobbin and the presser foot of the associated flyer. In Fig. 3, the flyers are driven from overhead, and the packages are traversed by a rail, and each package is rotated faster than the associated flyer by a shaft 29 which has a clutch element 28 engaging a corresponding element in a flange 25 of the bobbin, the element 28 having a spigot for locating the bobbin. At the end of a set, the traverse-rail is lowered below the lowest point of the traverse, so that each roving is severed and each bobbin comes to rest by means of its flange 25 on a platform 36, with the top of each bobbin clear of the locating spindle 14. As the rail continues to descend, the clutch parts are separated, and the bobbin is removed by tilting and raising it. For the next set, empty bobbins are placed on the platform or the platform is removed and replaced by one carrying empty bobbins. The traverse rail is raised to start-position, in which the presser feet each bear against a plush zone (34, Fig. 5, not shown) on the associated bobbin. After the builder motion is reset, the machine is restarted at crawl speed to wind at least one coil on the zone; upward movement of the bobbin then causes the roving to be wound over the tail-end of the bobbin and the machine is accelerated to full speed. The presser foot is urged against the package by a spring coiled around the shaft of the foot, and is counterweighted. A lug on the shaft abuts a stop against the flyer leg to limit inward movement of the foot at the start of a wind so as not to impede the upward movement of the empty bobbin. The arrangement may be applied to a machine where the flyers are traversed as described in Application No. 3394/65. The machine is stopped when the presser feet are moving downwards and at a predetermined distance from the foot of the bobbin, provision being made to bring the presser feet to a stop at the rear of the machine. With the machine stopped, the traverse rail is moved downwards to break the rovings. Each bobbin is mounted on a spring- loaded driving platform, and the bobbins are depressed manually to disengage them from the associated locating-spindles such as 14.
