Abstract

1,071,073. Winding slivers continuously; doffing. W. H. W. SCHULLER. June 9, 1964 [June 20. 1963], No. 23921/64. Headings DID and D1J. Slivers of glass are continuously wound by traversing them onto a bobbin 2 at a station I by means of a grooved drum 1 that is in driving engagement with the resulting package 3 on the bobbin 2. As the package 3 increases in diameter a two-armed lever 5, carrying the drum 1 at one end and a balance mass 6 at the other end, is slowly rocked to a setting in which it causes a switch arm 7 to close a switch 8. Closure of the switch 8 causes a motor 10 to rotate a bobbin changer 15 in the direction of the arrow B to move the fully wound bobbin to station II and move an empty bobbin 2a at station III to station I. The bobbin 2a then takes over the sliver f issuing from the grooved drum 1 and the portion of sliver extending between stations I and II is traversed over one of the cutting blades 26, 27, 28 to sever the slivers extending between stations I and II. The correct rotation of the bobbin changer 15 is controlled by contact arms 17, 18, 19 rotating in synchronism with changer 15 and operating a switch 20 to determine the instant at which the drive motor 10 shall stop. After said instant a brake shoe at station II is automatically actuated to clamp the fully wound package at station II against reverse rotation and so prevent the slivers thereon being wound back onto the bobbin 2a. The return movement of the pivoted grooved drum 1 toward the bobbin changer 15 after the full bobbin 3 has left the winding station 1 is retarded to permit the next empty bobbin to move into the winding station.
