Abstract

1425968 Automatic winding of wire spools PRODUCTIONS SARCEM SA 2 July 1973 [18 July 1972] 31465/73 Heading D1J A spool of wire is automatically wound by a machine that is programmed to (a) secure the wire to be wound in a clamping device rotating with the spindle on which the wire is to be wound; (b) make one revolution of the spindle before the wire is moved to a traverse zone; (c) cause the spindle to rotate for a predetermined number of revolutions; (d) open the clamping device; (e) move the wire being wound back towards said clamping device: (f) cause the wire already in the clamping device to be extracted from, and the wire extending from the supply to be placed in, said clamping device; and (g) close the clamping device on the wire extending from the supply and cut the wire leading from the clamp to the spool. The spool is then automatically doffed. In Fig. 3 the spool is wound between two cheeks 6, 9. Cheek 6 is rigid with a core 5 that extends into and is driven by cheek 9. At the start of a winding operation the wire extending from the supply is clamped between a clamp and a cam 14 rotating with the cheek 9. When one revolution of the core 5 has been made the wire is moved via a helicoidal slot 23, to a traverse member 7 that traverse the wire between the cheeks 6, 9 during a predetermined number of revolutions of the core 5. Thereafter the clamping action on the wire is released and the wire being wound is moved back to the clamping device via a cut out 15, Fig. 4, in the cam 14. At the same time an extractor 25, Fig. 4, is moved into the path of the wire extending between the helicoidal slot 23 and the wound spool and this causes the initially clamped end to be removed from the clamp. The clamp then closes on the wire extending from the supply. The wire between the clamp and the finished spool is automatically cut and the cheeks 6, 9 move apart to doff the spool.
