Abstract
1275561 Continuous winding apparatus; spindle drive FAIRBAIRN LAWSON Ltd 2 May, 1969 [3 May 1968] 20996/68 Headings DID and D1J A thread winding apparatus has a mechanism for moving a filled thread package support from a winding station to a reserve station, and for moving an empty package support from a reserve station to the winding station, and two or more deflectors movable with the supports to intercept the thread extending from a supply source to the filled package support. Two spindles 11, 12 are mounted on a rotatable turret 10 and frictionally driven, the drive to the spindle at the reserve station (12 in Fig. 2) being disconnectable by moving a lever 24 (Fig. 4) by a fluid-pressureoperated lever 29, so that a full package can be manually removed and an empty support substituted. The thread is traversed by a camdriven guide 63 and is laid on the package support at the winding station by a roller 64. Winding speed is adjusted to maintain constant tension by means of an electromagnetic coupling, arranged to transmit extra torque when more than one spindle is rotating. Thread transfer. After a period determined by a pre-set timer, when next the thread traverse guide 63 reaches the end remote from the turret 10 and operates a micro-switch 77, a fluid-operated piston-cylinder assembly rotates the turret 10 through 180 (anticlockwise as shown in Fig. 2) raising the roller 64 away from the winding station by means of cam portions 96, 97 of the turret, the thread extending between spindle 12 and roller 64 being pulled against limb 93a of a deflector 92 (Fig. 7). Winding onto spindle 12 continues until the traverse reaches the turret end of the spindle, when the thread is pulled round corner 91a of deflector 92, is severed by knife blade 130, or an electrical resistance wire, and is caught up between pins 103 (projecting radially from the turret end of spindle 11) and a brush 104 (Fig. 10). Winding commences on spindle 11, and lever 29 is actuated to stop rotation of spindle 12, which is again brought up to speed before the next transfer, when the full package has been replaced by an empty support.
