Abstract

681,531. Winding yarn. UNIVERSAL WINDING CO. Jan. 26, 1951 [May 3, 1950], No. 2033/51. ' Class 120(ii) A yarn winding machine comprises a rotatable support 18 to receive a core 16 on which yarn is to be wound, a selfthreading yarn guide 24 for traversing the yarn across the core and a rotary yarn guide 36 characterized by means to engage and hold the yarn in a position for winding a transfer tail on the core and against movement axially of the core, said means being moved by rotation of the yarn guide to disengage the yarn, after a predetermined time interval during which the transfer tail is wound and permit the yarn to move axially to engage the selfthreading yarn guide. As shown the core 16 mounted on support or arbor 18 is rotated by surface contact with a driving roll 10 carried by a shaft 12 which also, through bevel gears 50 and 52, shaft 54 and worm and wormwheel 56 and 58, rotates shaft 38, on which is mounted the rotary thread guide 36. Rotary thread guide 36 is preferably moulded from a synthetic resin and has a plurality of generally triangular shaped yarn guide teeth 46 which are angularly spaced apart to form a plurality of axial slots 48.
