Abstract

467,301. Winding yarns &c. SCHARERNUSSBAUMER & CO. July 1, 1936, Nos. 18252 and 18253. Convention dates, Dec. 17, 1935 and May 28, 1936. [Class 120 (ii)] In a winding frame having several winding spindles mounted in a carrier, which, at the termination of a winding operation, is automatically rotated for the purpose of bringing an empty bobbin into the working position. The carrier is also displaced longitudinally for the building of the cop and returned to its initial position when the carrier is rotated ; the step-by-step longitudinal displacement of the carrier may be controlled by a feeler co-operating with the thread of the cop being wound and at the termination of a winding operation the carrier leaves an abutment and permits the rotation of the carrier. As shown in the Figure, a pair of spindles 1, 1<1> are mounted between a pair of plates 2, 3 forming a carriage slidable on a hollow shaft 8 supported in the machine frame 9. The spindle 1 is driven by a belt 7, which preferably serves a number of frames, and the carriage and spindles are advanced step-by-step, as the yarn is laid on the bobbin 5 by a reciprocating thread guide, through the agency of the thread feeler 16 which, at each reciprocation of the thread guide, contacts with the yarn 15 and is rocked to turn a shaft 17 against the action of a spring ; the shaft 17 carries a contact arm 18 which closes a circuit through a motor geared to a screwed spindle 12 engaging a half nut 11 pivoted to an arm 10 on the carriage which is thus moved longitudinally against the action of a spring 19. The pivoted half nut 11 is held in engagement with the spindle 12 against the action of a spring by tail 2<1> on the plate 2 until the bobbin on the spindle 1 is completed when a tail 3<1> on the plate 3 moves part of the end of a bar 13 adjustably mounted on the frame ; the action of the belt 7 on the spindle 1 then rotates the carriage slightly and disengages the tail 2<1> from the half nut 11 which is disengaged from the spindle 12 by its spring. The spring 19 then restores the carriage to the initial winding position and during this movement a sleeve 20, having a helical groove 20<11> engaging a roller 8<1> on the shaft 8, is rotated and; by the engagement of a dog 20<1> at one end with a dog 2<111> on the frame 2, rotates the carriage to move the spindle 1 and the completed bobbin thereon to the doffing position and simultaneously bring the spindle 2 and empty bobbin 5<1> into the winding position with the tails 2<11>, 3<11> of the plates 2, 3 co-operating with the half nut 11 and bar 13 respectively. In a modification, the sleeve 20 and associated parts are dispensed with and the plate 2 is formed with a pulley-like extension which is grooved for the accommodation of the spindles 1, 1<1> which, when the carriage is returned to the initial winding position, engages the driving belt and is rotated thereby to move spindle 1 to the doffing position and the spindle 1<1> into the winding position.
