Abstract

550,396. Winding yarns; bobbins. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. July 2, 1941, No. 8322. Convention date, July 3, 1940. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] A yarn package, driven by frictional engagement with the surface of the yarn thereon is wound by traversing the yarn over part of that portion of the length of the package support in contact with which yarn is to be wound and by producing a relative motion in the direction of the axis of the support and the field of traverse of the traversing means as the axis of the support moves away from the frictional driving means during the building and shaping of the package; bottle bobbins with windings parallel to the axis of the bobbin are thus produced. As shown the ends of the spindle 8 carrying the bottle bobbin 7 are rotatably mounted in inclined guides 9 so that the bobbin moves endwise, relative to the field of traverse of the guide 16, as it grows. In another form the spindle is slidably mounted in arms carried by a rotatable shaft, a spring on one of the arms engaging one end of the spindle and moving it endwise in the arms as the bobbin rises.
