Abstract

In a ring spinning spindle wherein yarn is wound on a portion (61) (Figs. 1 and 3 not shown) of the spindle (16) (or other rotating part) when the bobbin is full, means are provided to sever and remove such yarn while the spindle is still rotating. In Figs. 1 and 3 a suction device (2) running on rails (3, 41) has a head (21) with a nozzle (8) which can be brought into close proximity with the portions (61) of the spindles. A scratching and severing device (7) consisting of two blades (71, 72) (Fig. 4, not shown) having teeth pointing in opposite directions lies within a slot in nozzle (8) on a frame (9) and is urged against portions (61) by springs (10); thus the yarns in portions (61) are cut and sucked away. Instead of plates (71, 72) a wire brush may be used; alternatively the opening of nozzle (8) may be arranged to act as a scratching device. The suction device may form part of a doffing carriage running along the machine. In Fig. 5, not shown, each spindle is provided with an individual nozzle (81) formed at its opening as a stratching device. The nozzles are linked to ducts (84) and these can be moved by cams (83) to bring the nozzles into contact with the spindles.
