684,700. Doffing arrangements in textile spinning machines. T.M M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. April 6, 1951 [April 26, 1950], No 10277/50. Addition to 678,306. Class 120(ii) A modification of the ring spinning, doubling or twisting unit described in the parent Specification, comprises a package carrier member, Fig. 2 (detachably mounted on the spindle and capable of axial and rotary movement thereto) incorporating two components, one 26 carrying a cutter 27 and the other 11 being adapted to seize the yarn so that when the rotation of one component is arrested continued rotation of the other severs the yarn across the cutter, interceptor means retaining the carrier at subsequent separation of the spindle and ring so that the package 5 is supported with freedom for lateral doffing. When the spindle is raised to the doffing position, Fig. 4, a flange 14 shrouding a package seating 13 passes the level of the ring 6 and the yarn from a traveller 8 slides over a catch plate 17 to be seized between the upper face of a spring-urged bifurcated extension thereof and an undercut slot 20 of the flange 14; the remainder of the yarn delivered by the traveller before the spindles come to rest is laid in a groove 28. Interceptor plates 30, 31 slidably supported by studs 33 are then moved into the position shown in Fig. 7, so that lateral extensions 35 thereof lie beneath a base ring 16 of the carrier which is accommodated within a recess 15 in the ring rail 7; a brief rotary impulse then imparted to the spindle causes the member 26 to be arrested by the impingement of a peg 29 against a lug 36 of the plate 30, but the member 11 continues to rotate with the spindle until the yarn is pushed into the grip of the catch plate 17, 19 and is severed as it is drawn taut across the blade 27. The spindle rail is lowered allowing the plates 30, 31 to support the carrier and a package thereon freed for doffing as by separator plates, Fig. 9 (not shown), in the manner described in the parent Specification.
