Abstract

478,162. Coiling slivers. CASABLANCAS, F. March 25, 1937, No. 8868. [Class 120 (iii)] In apparatus for coiling slivers, the slivers are delivered through devices 6, 7, Fig. 1, into a can 1 supported on a plate 2 the feed devices or the member 2 being moved round a substantially circular path without giving an axial rotation thereto so that the sliver is coiled without permanent twist. Both the support 2 and the devices 6, 7 may be so moved without giving an axial rotation either to the support or to the feed devices while a number of slivers may be coiled in a single can. A suitable mechanism for moving the support 2 and /or the coiler 3 consists of a lever 8, Fig. 2, actuated by a crank 10, to the end of which the support plate 2 is secured, the lever 8 being slotted at 11 and guided by a stud 12 and the plate 2 tracing out the path 15. In a modification, the plate 2 is caused to follow a truly circular path 19, Fig. 3, by guiding the pin 17 in a cam groove 18 of the same shape as the path 15.
