The front ends ofthe springy arrns are the Confedcrated Swiss Republic, andresiding at Krokslatt, Sweden, haveinventeail certain new and useful Improvements in Ring Spinning and Twisting Machines with Automatic Doffing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawing.
The present invention relates to ring spin-- ning and twisting machines and more particularly to that kind of such machines that are provided with automatic dofiing appara tus for the simultaneous removal of full bobbins or cops and also for the simultaneous mounting of empty bobbins or tubes to take the places of the removedfull ones as described in my U. S. Patent, No. 1,384,449, July 12, 1921.
When a ring spinning or twisting machine is stopping for dofling the traveller is free to stop anywhere on the periphery of the flanged ring upon which it is travelling. If the traveller stops on that part of the periphery of the ring facing the dofiing apparatus, it might happen that the thread will be broken by the cop-holder when this is advanced to catch the head of the cop.
In order that this may be obviated, springy arms are, according to this invention, arranged under the cop-holder so that the front ends of the arms will strike the ring when the cop-holder is advancing to catch the cop. After having come in touch with the ring the ends of the arms will slide one along each side of the same and then push away the traveller, if it has stopped on the front half'of the ring, and move it over to the rear half, the thread which eX- tends from the traveller to the upper guiding eye being then at the same time pushed aside so that it will not be caught by the cop holder.
The invention is by way of example illus-v trated on the accompanying drawing where Figure 1 is a side view and Figure 2 a plan view of the arrangement. Figure 3 is showing the springy arms in an intermediate position. Fig. 1 is a detail.
To the rotatable shaft 18 carrying the cop-holders 19 are attached springy arms 52 under each cop-holder. The front ends of the arms project preferably somewhat ahead of the ends of the cop-holder plates so that the traveller 51 on the ring 50 in bifurcated having one upper and one lower, prong or finger, the upper finger '54 curving over the edge. of the ring, while the lower finger 53 projectsinto the groove below the edge of the ring. The upper fingers of the two arms are arranged to be the one on the top of the other, seen from above (see Figs. 1 and 1), while the front side surfaces of the same are bevelled (see Fig. 4:) so as to form, when the one is above the other, a.
front edge in order that the traveller surely will be pushed away by the outer side surface of one of the fingers in case the traveller should have stopped on the front half of the ring just opposite the center line of the fingers and thus be prevented to come between the fingers. During the forward movement of the cop-holder the arms 52 are time will .bemoved out offtheway for the I separating as they are sliding on the both sides of the ring (see Fig. 3), and then the traveller 51 will be moved over to the rear part of the ring by the one arm or the other, so that the thread extending from the upper guide eye 55 to the traveller will be moved out of the way of and not damaged by the cop-holder 19.
The springy arms 52 may evidently be placed either between the cop-holder plates, as shown on the drawing, or outside the same,'it being only necessary that the arms are not prevented by the cop-holder plates from spreadingout when said plates are brought in engagement with a cop.
It is also evident that the front ends of the springy arms may be of another shape than the above described or provided with other means for pushing away the traveller, for instance provided with suitable brushes, it being only necessary that said means are capable surely to move the traveller out of the way of the cop'holder and the thread not be caught between the cop-holderplates when dotting.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: a
1. In a ring spinning and twisting machine, the combination with an automatic dofiing apparatus, of cop-h0lding plates, and springy arms adjacent said plates, the front ends of said arms being adapted to cause the traveller in doffing to be moved out of the way of the cop-holding plate to prevent the thread being caught by the copholder.
2. In a ring spinning and twisting machine, the combination as claimed in claim 1, in which the front ends of said springy other below the ring forming the path of the traveller, substantially as described.
4. In a ring spinning and twisting machine, the combination as claimed in claim 1, in which the front ends of the said springy arms are provided with fingers, the said fingers being disposed so that one linger of each arm is above the other finger of the same arm, substantially as described.
5. In a ring spinning and twisting machine, the combination as claimed in claim 1, including brushes carried by the ends of said springy arms, substantially as described.
