Abstract
472,570. Winding yarns etc.; spools or cop tubes. SCHARER-NUSSBAUMER & CO. Oct. 17, 1936, Nos. 28256 and 28257. Convention dates, Dec. 28, 1935 and Mav 28, 1936. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] In a machine for winding yarns &c. in which a number of spools or cop tubes are mounted in a carrier which is rotated to bring empty spools successively into the winding position, the end portion of the yarn on the completed spool leaving the winding position passes over the uniformly reciprocated yarn guide before it arrives at the winding position of the empty spool and is engaged by temporarily shifted thread transferrer and directed thereby into a thread catch which rotates with the empty spool ; the thread is thus fixed to the empty spool and torn by the pull between the two spools. As shown the spools 8, 8<1> are mounted on spindles in a plate 1 forming part of a carrier which is moved step by step during the winding as described in Specification 467,301, so as to cause the building of the yarn 15 which is led to the spool 8 by the uniformly reciprocated yarn guide 14 ; before engaging the guide 14 the yarn 9 passes around a thread transferrer or deflecting member 10 pivoted on a pin 11 and normally held by a spring against a stop 13. When the winding on the spool 8 is completed, an arm 1<1> on the plate 1 leaves a rail 5 and the carrier is then returned by a spring to its initial position and rotated by automatic means on its spindle 3 to bring the empty spool 8<1> into the winding position, the yarn being laid in an open helix on the completed cop and the member 10 being moved by the plate 1 to shift the thread from one side of the guide 14 to the other and into the path of the thread catch 19 on the head 7<1> of the spindle carrying the spool 8<1>. The winding on the spool 8<1> then proceeds, the yarn is ruptured between the heads 7, 7<1> of the two spindles and the completed cop is removed from the spindle 6 and replaced by an empty spool ; the return movement of the member 10 with the rotation of the spool 8<1> moves the yarn to the original side of the thread guide. In another arrangement the thread transferrer comprises a pair of curved wire arms fixed in bores in a head on the plate 1. The thread catch 19 may be mounted on the spool and comprises a spring arm secured at one end to the spool or spindle head and clamping the yarn against the spool or head intermediate its ends ; in a modification the thread catch comprises an annulus of springy wire mounted in a groove in the spindle head with one end projecting therefrom and the thread is deflected into the catch when the spool carrier is rotated by one of the pair of curved wire arms extending from the boss on the axis of the carrier.
