Abstract

571,456. Winding wire &c. CARTER, B., and CARTER, E. Dec. 11, 1943, No. 20787. [Class 120 (ii)] A machine for winding wire &c. of the type having a holder for receiving and driving the bobbin to be wound and a guide for " laying " the wire &c. as the bobbin rotates and having pivotal means for moving the guide and means for varying the position of the pivot, so as to shorten or lengthen the guide's movement, is also provided with pivotal means for imparting a step-by-step motion to the guide-moving means, the position of the pivot being adjustable so that the individual increments in the guide's movement may be shortened or lengthened. The motor 2 drives the counter shaft 3 through pulleys 4, 5, the vertical shaft 12 being driven from the shaft 3 through worm and worm-wheel 10, 11. The shaft 12 carries two or more staggered cams 13 each of which rocks a rod 38 universally pivoted in a block 39 adjustable by a hand wheel 44 which rotates screw-rods 41. Each rod 38 is connected by rack and clutch mechanism to a shaft 33 which is thus rotated step-by-step to rotate a cam 34, thus moving a cam-box 30 to and fro in guides. A rod 25 pivoted at 26 to an adjustable nut 27 is connected by pin-and-slot attachment to the cam-box 30 and moves the traverse bar 15 in guides 14 to traverse the guide roller 19 longitudinally of the bobbin which is rotated by pulleys 8, 9 and the belt 7. The guide rollers 17, 18, 19 are adjustably carried by the guide frame 16. A lost-motion device may be provided to cause a dwell at each end of the stroke of the traverse bar 15. In an alternative form, the heart-cam 34 may be replaced by a barrelcam. The driving pulley 9 for the bobbin is attached to a spindle 21, the bobbin flange being driven by a pin 21c carried by a replaceable plate 21b having a plug 21a which engages within the bobbin. The plate 21b is held in place by a screwed rod extending through the spindle 21. The other end of the bobbin is supported by a centre 23a carried by an antifriction bearing on the adjustable tail-stock 22. A clamp is provided in the guide frame 16 to hold the wires during the cutting of those wound.
