Abstract
837,654. Sewing machines. INDUSTRIEWERKE KARLSRUHE A.G. Dec. 20, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1957], No. 39712/57. Class 112 In a sewing machine roller feed drive the upper roller and means for imparting intermittent movement thereto are vertically displaceable in a common carrier under the differential action of two springs, one of which wholly or partly counterbalances the vertically displaceable parts. A shaft 9 journalled in a casing 8 is driven step-by-step by a one-way clutch 7 connected adjustably by a slotted crank arm 6 and a pitman 4 to a crank 3 on the machine arm shaft 2. Shaft 9 carries a belt pulley 10. Casing 8 is adjustably clamped to two vertical rods 11, 12 slidable in a carrier 18 secured behind the head 17 of the machine. Journalled in a support 19 fixed to the lower ends of said rods is a shaft 22 which carries a pulley 23 connected by a belt 25 to pulley 10, and also carries the toothed upper feed roller 24 which co-operates with the toothed lower feed roller 28 journalled beneath the work table 26. Housed in the hollow upper end of rod 11 is a spring 32 the force of which is adjustable by means of a nut 34 and which biases the rods downwardly. A spring 35 coiled about rod 12 and interposed between an arm 36 of carrier 18 and a collar 37 adjustably fixed to rod 12, biases the rods upwardly.
