Abstract

699,828. Sewing - machines. CAPRARA, A. J., and KAWKA, A. C. Feb. 9, 1951 [Feb. 10, 1950], No. 3200/51. Class 112. In apparatus for the insertion of an endless elastic band into a hem and comprising pulleys 5, 6, 8, 12 mounted on a structure attached to the frame of a sewing-machine, the pulley 12 in front of the hem folding device 20 and the presser-foot 21 has a small upper groove 17 for guiding the band and a larger lower groove 18 for guiding the material to be hemmed. The structure comprises a tube 1 attached to the machine frame, and rods 3, 7 adjustable in the tube. An extension 10 on the rod 7 has a hinged part 11 carrying the pulley 12 and facilitating placing the band on the pulleys. In a modification a guard is placed over the pulleys 5, 6, and an apron adjacent the pulleys 8, 12 prevents the material to be hemmed from being torn by the apparatus.
