Abstract

867,415. Washing - machines. ELEKTROLUX A.B. July 5, 1957 [July 6, 1956], No. 21319/57. Class 138 (2). The impeller of a washing machine is driven reversibly by a member connected to the impeller and to an electric motor by a transmission having a relatively small gear reduction ratio, the member also being connected through a high reduction ratio to operate a pole switch which reverses the direction of rotation of the motor. As shown, motor 21 has friction wheels 23 and 24 and is swingable about vertical pins 42 into the position shown in which wheel 24 drives wheel 41, pulley 32, belt 19 and impeller 18, the direction of rotation of the motor being reversed after a given number of revolutions by the actuation of microswitch 38 by tab 36 which is driven by pin 35 and worm reduction gear 33, 34. When the motor 21 is pivoted into the alternative position, in which it is held by toggle action springs 29 and 30, wheel 23 drives pump 22 unidirectionally, the drive to wheel 41 being disengaged. The speed of the motor may be varied by a rheostat, but the number of revolutions of the impeller between reversals remains constant.
