975,116. Washing-machines. CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRO-MECANIQUES D'AMIENS. Feb. 13, 1962 [March 2, 1961], No. 5580/62. Heading D1A. In a rotary-drum washing machine, a drum drive-wheel 1 is driven frictionally by one of two pulleys 3, 4 of different diameter (for washing and spin-drying respectively), depending on the angular position of an arm 5 which is rotatable about a horizontal axis 0<SP>11</SP> and on which the pulleys 3, 4 are mounted. The pulleys 3, 4 are driven by a belt 6 from a motor M the weight of which tensions the belt 6. The arm 5 is moved by a cam-actuated rod 9, with a compression spring 8 interposed between the end 5a of the rod 5 and a stop ring 9a held by an adjustable nut 9b on the rod 9. A counteracting tension spring 7 connects the arm 5 to the frame A of the machine. A resilient abrasion-resistant double-layered friction band 2 is provided on the drive wheel 1 (or on the pulleys 3, 4).
