Abstract

793,699. Knitted fabrics; finishing fabrics. LISTER & CO., Ltd. Nov. 1, 1955 [Nov. 4, 1954 [No. 31972/54. Classes 42 (1) and 74 (2). [Also in Group IX] A knitted or woven fabric having projecting fibres of different lengths to simulate fur incorporates pile-forming yarns containing fibres differing in thickness and shrinkability, such that on subsequent shrinking the thick fibres remain longer than the thinner ones. Fibres quoted are: cotton for the ground fabric ; nylon monofilament or staple fibre, polyester filament, viscose rayon filament, and mohair for the longer pile; cotton, and vinyl resin polymers and copolymers, particularly a blend of undyed and spun-dyed polyvinyl chloride staple fibre, for the short pile; flat or other cellulose derivative filaments may be used. An example of a plush fabric knitted on a circular machine has pile formed from a sliver of blended nylon and polyvinyl chloride staple fibres. Finishing.-Shrinkage may be effected by brushing the pile in the presence of steam for 45 to 90 minutes and/or may occur during dyeing. If cotton is used for the shorter pile, shrinkage is effected by caustic soda.
