Abstract

Two-tone effects are produced in piece-dyed woven, knitted, or tufted fabrics by employing synthetic fibres or filaments of two kinds differing in cross-sectional shape and in dye receptivity. The two kinds may be in the same yarn (e.g. plied or core-spun) or in separate yarns. In an example, a deeper tone is obtained with acid dyestuff on nylon 66 filaments of circular cross-section and higher amine end group content than on trilobal filaments of lower amine end group content. In another example, the circular filaments are replaced by elliptical filament which are more highly orientated than the trilobal filaments, and the latter are delustered. In a tufted fabric, higher pile is formed from a yarn where its tone is required to be visible.
