Abstract

671,373. Spinning mixed fibre yarns. BURGESS, R. Feb. 3, 1949, No. 2950/49. Class 120(iii) Yarn containing intermingled fibres of a plurality of different colours is formed on the cotton system from staple cotton, rayon or synthetic fibres by forming a plurality of rovings from, such staple fibres, dyeing at least one roving a colour different from that of at least one other roving, doubling and drawing the different coloured rovings to form a roving in which the fibres of different colour are intermingled, thereafter repeatedly by doubling this roving with another similarly doubled and drawn roving of similar colour characteristics to increase the thoroughness of the intermingling, and spinning the resulting roving to form a yarn. Rovings dyed two or more different colours may be used, or one or more dyed rovings may be used with one or more undyed rovings. For example, a roving of colour a may be drawn and doubled with a roving of colour b to produce a roving colour a + b which is then doubled and drawn with another roving of colour a + b; or the roving of colour a + b may be doubled and drawn with a similarly produced roving of colour c + d to produce a roving of colour a + b + c + d which is then doubled and drawn with a similar roving of colour a + b + c + d. The initial intermingling of the fibres may be affected at one of the usual intermediate frames. Alternatively, an extra doubling and drawing operation may be utilized; for example, colour 1.6-hank rovings from the usual slubbers are doubled and drawn as an extra operation to produce a 1.6-hank mixed-colour roving, such a roving being then passed to usual intermediate frames, where it is doubled and drawn repeatedly, and thence to a spinning frame.
