Abstract

648,644. Yarns; woven fabrics: UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. July 13, 1948, No. 18755. Convention date, Sept. 26, 1947. [Classes 120(iii) and 142(iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A yarn which shrinks on heating consists of a non- thermoplastic yarn 11 and a heat-shrinkable resinous filament 12 twisted together. The non-thermoplastic yarn may be cotton, rayon, or wool, as a single or plaid yarn. The filament may comprise an oriented copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride, oriented polythene, or an oriented polyester of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol. The twist may range from 2 or 3 turns per inch to 18 turns. A woven fabric may be made entirely of these yarns, or may contain ordinary yarns, e.g. all the yarns in one direction may be ordinary yarns while those at right-angles may be the shrinkable yarns.
