Abstract

A composite spun yarn comprises shrinkable, elastomeric, synthetic fibres A and dimensionally stable, optionally crimped, non-elastomeric fibres B, the proportion by weight of A being 5-80% of the yarn. Fibres A and B shrink or contract along their filamentary axes by more than 25% and less than 15% respectively of their original length when heated under minimum tension. Fibres A exhibit reversible extensibility of more than 100% (reversible meaning that on being released at least 80% of the extension is recovered) and fibres B possess extensibility at break (along the filamentary axis) of less than 50%.
