Abstract

793,617. Hollow rollers. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. May 31, 1956 [July 7, 1955], No. 16854/56. Class 34(1) A roll 10, Fig. 1, has hollow trunnions 12 and an interior surface 11 having a helical rib 11a, a heat conductive tube 14 is disposed within the roll and has an inlet end 15 which is supported by a spider 17 in one of the trunnions, and an outlet end 16 having apertures 166 secured in the other trunnion and closed by a plug 13. Heating or cooling fluid enters the tube 14 through inlet 15, flows along the tube and through the apertures 166 into the helical passage and passes through an outlet in the trunnion surrounding the inlet 15. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tube 60 has a central enlarged portion having a helical rib 61 abutting the ribs 11a and forming a helical passage therewith.
