Abstract

553,669. Proofing hose and other pipes. ZABALA, F. S. July 11, 1941, No. 8805. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1940. [Class 140] In a process for impregnating hose and other pipes woven from fibrous material, one end of the pipe is supported at a higher level than the other, the interior of the pipe is filled with indiarubber latex or a solution of indiarubber or other similar plastic material, the ends of the pipe are closed or provided with cocks, and a light pressure is exerted on the latex at the upper end of the pipe by air or gas or by compressing the same between two rollers starting from the upper end, the process being continued until the liquid has passed through the walls of the pipe. The pipe may then be dried and vulcanized by passing through it a current of heated air or steam. This current may carry with it talcum powder. If desired the pipe may have a coat of paint.
