Abstract
798,603. Flexible hoses. RAYBESTOSMANHATTAN, Inc. June 1, 1956 [June 2, 1955], No. 16981/56. Class 99(2). A flexible, elastomeric hose comprises an inner tube 10, Fig. 1, of corrosion-resistant material and an outer tube 11 which snugly embraces the tube 10 but is substantially free of bondage thereto. The tube 11 is sufficiently thick to furnish the physical strength lacked by the tube 10 and prevent collapse thereof and the inner tube, when the hose is bent, is able to slip slightly within the outer tube. The extruded inner tube may have a thickness of from 10 to 100 mils and be of polytetrafluoroethylene or polymonochlorotrifluoroethylene, and the outer tube may have a thickness of at least 1/32 inch and be formed of natural or synthetic rubber. As shown in Fig. 3, the hose includes a reinforcement 13 in the form of single or multiple braids of cotton, wire or asbestos or helical or longitudinal wraps of cloth. The outer tube may be applied as an extrusion or a wrapping of rubber sheet, the inner tube being supported against collapse by a rigid or inflatable mandrel or by applying air or hydraulic pressure to the interior of the tube.
