Abstract

Mfr. of a catheter of the type having an inflatable, external sleeve which is intended to seal on the inner wall of the aperture through which the catheter is passed. A catheter flexible tube, with main, central bore and a wall passage leading to an external inflation aperture, is fitted with a tight sleeve of thin, flexible, thermoplastic material to cover the inflation aperture. A liq. coating of thermoplastic material is applied to completely cover the sleeve and to adhere to the tube extending at both ends of the sleeve. When the coating is dry, the sleeve and coating materials are stress-relieved whilst inflated, pref. in a heated mould which forms an inflated sleeve as a coaxial cylinder around the tube. Sleeve and coating are pref. both in polyurethane around a P.V.C. tube. The process is simple and inexpensive, and produces an inflatable sleeve which seals well at low inflation press. and spreads the load lightly on the walls of the incision in the patient.
