Abstract

539,786. Moulding rubber froth. TALALAY, J. A. Feb. 19, 1940, No. 3159. [Class 87 (ii)] Rubber froth is allowed to contract in a container at least one wall of which is free to move in one of the directions of contraction of the froth. The container a has an inner perforated plate g suspended on bolts d passing through holes e in an outer lid b. A sheet of fabric c is secured to the plate g and to the edges of the box. The fabric may be disposed above the plate g. Latex is poured in the container through a funnel j, is frothed as by pressure reduction, expands and pushes out the plate g, and on gelling contracts, the plate g following the descending surface of the froth. The latex may be frothed before introduction into the container, and may contain fibrous material. The fabric c may be impregnated with a coagulating agent such as ammonium nitrate. In a modification the bolts d are omitted and the plate g is replaced by a ring. Specification 484,798 is referred to.
