Abstract
579,271. Battery boxes. WILLIAMS, A. H. Oct. 4, 1941, No. 12854. [Class 18] [Also in Group XXXVI] A container for a secondary battery comprises an outer cell 1 of fibrous material and an inner cell 2 of elastic or plastic material having a lip of flange 2A seating on the upper end of the outer cell. The cell 2 may have ledges to support the plates, the ledges being formed by making two sides of the cell with thicker walls for a portion of their height. A resilient packing member may be placed between the ledges and the plates. The outer cell may be made of impregnated or coated wood or woven fabric with the bottom corners of ebonite or hard rubber to facilitate sliding the batteries into position. The inner cell may be of vulcanized rubber.
