Abstract
781,188. Shaped coated fabrics; coating webs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. July 29, 1955 [Sept. 3, 1954], No. 25571/54. Class 140. Grooved, fluted or other shaped material suitable for use as an upholstery covering, is produced (as in Fig. 1) by continuously feeding a substantially horizontal and plane flexible sheet 12 beneath an outlet 11 from which a heat gellable vulcanizable foamed compounded rubber latex is discharged, under one or more doctor blades 21, 22, at least one of which can be raised periodically for cleaning (23), through a heated gelling chamber 24, between a pair of shaping rollers 25, 26 which may be mounted one above the other and at least one of which is recessed, e.g. having ridges on its surface parallel (37 in Fig. 4) or perpendicular (27 in Fig. 2) to its axis, and then through one or more heated vulcanizing and drying chambers 33. Suitable sheet materials are textile fabrics, leather-like synthetic resins and leathercloths, i.e. textile fabrics having a polyvinylchloride facing.
