Abstract

686,330. Testing fabrics. LINEN INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. June 8, 1951. [June 8, 1950] No. 14266/50. Class 42 (ii). In a machine for testing textile fabrics by subjecting them to wear by rubbing against an abradant, the fabric 1 is mounted over a resilient boss 2, which may be a rubber diaphragm distended by fluid pressure, or made of sponge rubber formed to a convex shape. The abradant surface may consist of an abradant fabric 7 clamped over a flat plate 9 which has a number of rounded studs 8 projecting from its surface, or may consist of one or more abrasive materials made or moulded in similar form. As shown in Fig. 3, the plate 9 may be mounted to rotate with respect to the base 12 of a machine, and two resilient bosses 2 supported on arms 13 hingedly mounted on brackets 14 on the frame 12. Arms 15, contacting the resilient bosses, cause intermittent rotation thereof.
