Abstract

848,662. Ironing-presses. BRAITHWAITE & SON (DRYSALTERS) Ltd., I., SMITH, A. L., and DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Oct. 29, 1956 [July 29, 1955], No. 21934/55. Class 138 (2). A resilient pad for an ironing-press platen is formed from silicone foam rubber and subjected to heat and pressure until it attains a substantially constant thickness. The pad may be in direct contact with the platen, but is preferably fused on to a layer of open weave asbestos cloth or fine wire gauze which acts as a base and securing means for the pad. The foam rubber pad is preferably unfaced and covered by a single layer of cotton sheeting, and may be used in a steam press.
