Abstract
834,123. Printing textiles. BRITISH TUFTING MACHINERY Ltd. Oct. 25, 1957 [Nov. 15, 1956], No. 34972/56. Class 100(2) Apparatus for printing on textiles such as pile fabrics, blankets &c. comprises at least one printing roller 2, having a pattern in relief formed by pad elements 5 of resilient cellular material such as foamed or sponge plastic or rubber having interconnected pores, each mounted on a base 4 of rubber, the roller being adapted to rotate while partially immersed in printing solution or dye, and a pressure roller 13 which presses the fabric 12 against the elements 5 so that the solution is squeezed out of the elements and is absorbed by the pile of the fabric. The roller 2, which is secured on a rotatable shaft 3, has drain holes 7 passing through the shell, and spacers 6 between the elements and bases 5, 4. The printing solution is contained in a tank 1, and an adjustable pressure roller 8 in the base of the tank presses against the elements 5 to remove air therefrom and allow them to soak up the solution. A scraper blade 10 and an air jet device 11 arranged above the level of the solution, remove excess liquid from the surfaces of the elements 5.
