Abstract

1,041,351. Moulding corrugated hose. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Aug. 30, 1962 [Sept. 29, 1961], No. 35108/61. Heading B5A. Corrugated hose is produced by curing an uncured or part-cured hose on a rigid mandrel by heating the external surface of the hose in a heating chamber, this external surface not being subjected to any shaping forces during the heating. As described the mandrel 10 has axial bores 11 which lead from the troughs of the corrugations to a central bore 12 which is connected to an air line 16 during the loading and unloading of the hose. After the hose 17 has been placed on the mandrel 10 the air line 16 is disconnected and the assembly is placed in an open steam chamber. The cured hose is then removed by reconnecting the air line. The hose 17 may be made of natural or synthetic rubber or any heat-curable material and has a knitted fabric reinforcement and may be made by extruding a tube, covering with fabric, and then adding a further rubber cover.
