Abstract

568,740. Calender rollers. BATES, E. B. July 27,1943, No. 12170. [Class 34 (i)] A calender roller 10 is heated by a non- rotatable radiator 12 which is located within the roller and is itself heated by steam or hot air &c. circulated therethrough from an inlet pipe 13 to an outlet pipe 14, the pipes 13, 14 extending through the hollow trunnions 11 of the roller, and heat-exchange between the radiator and roller being effected by a heatconducting liquid 16, such as glycerine, oil or mercury, contained in the said roller. The radiator may also be heated by a gas burner or an electric heater. Radiating fins 15, preferably formed as a helix, are provided on the radiator, and leakage of the liquid 16 is prevented. by throwers 17 mounted on the pipes 13, 14.
