793,456. Hydraulic brakes. HARVEY, J. F. W. May 28, 1956 [May 31, 1955], No. 10011/55. Class 103 (1). A mechanism for the automatic adjustment of hydraulic brakes comprises a barrel 1 connectible at boss 4 to a source of hydraulic pressure, a shuttle 9a or 9b being provided in each half of the barrel, each shuttle being fluid tightly slidable in the barrel 1 so that hydraulic pressure applied through connection 4 moves the shuttles which, in turn, by thrust through distance piece 24, move pistons 25 in auxiliary barrels 3, Fig. 2, which are screwed into the ends of barrel 1, the construction being characterized principally in that the " brake off " or normal terminal position of the shuttles in the barrel 1 may be varied selectively by means of the cam 8, 8a, 8b, the position of which may be adjusted by a lock nut 12a. The pistons 25 act to seal off the orifices 26 leading to the brake cylinders in the event of fracture of a pipe leading thereto. Each shuttle consists of two half-members, fluid being able to pass from the space 15 therebetween on the return movement thereof past spring-loaded ball valve 7.
